Our history

Transforming plastics into sustainable solutions since 1945

 

Axjo's history dates back to 1945 in a small Swedish town called Gislaved. It began as a plastic company producing various types of products. Through years of hard work and knowledge gathering, the company developed a unique ability to work with and innovate plastic as a material. Over the years, Axjo has refined its product range and advanced its expertise in materials. Today, the company offers a broad portfolio of products for cable and wire, as well as small storage solutions, all made from technically advanced plastics with a focus on sustainability.

Yesterday, today and beyond

In 2024 Axjo is reviewing its company portfolio and optimizing it through the merger with PPS. This also includes renaming several companies within the group. In addition to being a key player in the cable drum market, Axjo is a strong competitor in the small storage solutions industry. To support this expansion, a new facility is being built in Sweden. The company celebrates its 80th anniversary with new products for the market and additional space to grow.

Turning Point

In 2019, a devastating fire struck the Swedish facility, causing significant damage. Thankfully, no injuries occurred. This event marked a turning point for Axjo, driving the creation of a state-of-the-art production plant and new headquarters in Gislaved, while paving the way for further global growth.

From Sweden to the world

From Sweden to the world

At the start of the 2000s, Axjo experienced rapid development. The Swedish production facility doubled in size. Axjo America was founded in North Carolina, USA, and a few years later, it opened a new production plant with 50 lines. 

During this period, the ownership of Axjo changed, with Jacob Nilsson becoming the new owner. He streamlined the business to focus exclusively on manufacturing in-house packaging solutions.

First Reel patent

The first patented reel was launched for the Scandinavian cable industry in 1998. In the years to come, Axjo expanded its portfolio to over 100 different types.

In 1965 Axjo developed its first reels for the local cable plant. 

1945 -The beginning 

Axjo AB was founded by Axel Josefsson in Gislaved. The company manufactured various items made from plastic, such as phone cables and boxes for containing moisture.
